Aus dem offiziellen Nik Kershaw-Forum:

Dear all. Just wanted to share some highlights from my first 12 hours with the new album.

These Tears is a great opener and gave me flashbacks of the guitar riff from When a Heart Beats. A lovely hybrid of Nik's two periods.

Sky's the limit is SO MUCH better in this original version. I must say I had some difficulties with the Radio version, especially around the mid-eight ("bring me back a souvenir" etc) which was stripped to its bare minimum in that version. I have a lot of respect for Robbie Bronniman but I must say he didn't do this song justice with his mix. It was a relief to hear that this IS a great song after all. And, Welcome back piano! Haven't heard you in a Nik song since Wounded Knee (not counting Imogen's piano in What It Is).

The cluster of Runaway-Shoot Me-Bad Day seems to be Nik's farewell to Frank.
Shoot Me is clearly Die Laughing Part 2. Nik is finally getting rid of his demons who reigned supreme in YGTL. I'm guessing Frank had to be shot by Sarah for this to happen.
Good shot, Sarah!

Red Strand - Not sure about this one. Too obvious and Celtic for me, will have to wait and give it another chance.

Stuff - Love the key changes, can't be more Kershaw than this. Something is missing in the finish, though.

Enjoy the Ride is perhaps the centrepiece of this album. I just love the way the music reflects the lyrics. The roller-coaster confusion of the "I Don't know how" part and then back to the major chords that reassure you that if you take life as it comes and stop whining that you are "wounded but walking" and "can't get arrested", you might even enjoy this ride. The song does have a "ride" feel to it, just brilliant.

You may be aware that Enjoy the Ride, You’re the Best and Rock of Ages have been tried-out live (and uploaded to You Tube) in the recent 12 months or so, so they should not really be new to many of us. I am happy to say that the tracks are as good as the live versions, and in the case of Rock of Ages - even better. Much better.

You’re The Best is the first song I came back to after listening to the whole album. Brilliant combination of smart lyrics and crunchy chords. This MUST be a single. I just hope the charts performance of Sky's the Limit won't turn this into another "What-do-you-think-of-it-so-far" story.

The Bell deserves a separate discussion. This song has the potential of becoming huge on my list. And I'm talking "Walkabout" huge. Will have to wait and see. I dare every parent (or every listener over 35) to listen to this song and not have tears in their eyes. Smart chord progression has always been Nik's stock in trade, but combine it with the reflections of a 54 year old who is brave enough to think about the moment his bell rings, and you get one of Nik's most poignant compositions ever.

Ei8ht made me laugh, moved me to tears and reassured me that Nik is the one artist who inspires me the most and makes the biggest difference to my life. This time he takes special care and really tries to make it work well. The production is meticulous and uplifting. The sound is rich, Nik's vocals are superb (no over-ambitious falsettos this time) and the backing vocals really add just the right touch of additional "edge".

Overall, this album will be a hard act to follow.

Well done Nik and thank you so much for what you have given us over the years.
